Koordinates – the one place for geodata
Whether you're a scientist, analyst, programmer or you simply want to explore the world around you, there are significant barriers to finding and using geographic data. The wide range of formats, projections and sources has made data inaccessible to many. Usually industry knowledge or specialist expertise is required to release the value of geographic data for you and your organisation.
Koordinates fundamentally alters the way geographic information data is stored, discovered and shared.
Koordinates allows you to search, sort, bookmark and share geographic data sets. Download in the format, projection and area you need, connect with web services using industry standard services or developer friendly APIs, or explore data within the browser. Koordinates aims to release the power of geographic data to all users.
About Koordinates Limited.
Koordinates Ltd is a limited liability company registered in New Zealand with offices in Auckland and Wellington, New Zealand.
Co-founders Ed Corkery (CEO) and Rob Coup (CTO) have been studying and working in the geology, GIS and online mapping industries for a combined 13 years.
During that time, they experienced first-hand the frustrations felt by all professional people for the time-consuming process of finding and using digital geographic data. They envisaged a simpler way of bringing geodata to professionals around the world.
Ed and Rob put their heads together and spent most of 2007 thinking, researching and experimenting with a number of concepts. Working with industry partners, they finally created Koordinates.com – 'the one place for geodata'. It was launched into beta testing in November 2007.
The application was launched publicly in April the next year. Since then, Koordinates has gone from strength to strength. In August 2010 Koordinates launched their first branded data portal: LRIS for Landcare Research.
In November 2010, Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) announced that Koordinates would partner with LINZ to develop web services and tools to make LINZ data more available and accessible. The LINZ Data Service launched in June 2011 and has been well received as a leap towards lower barriers between government data suppliers and users.
